Provider Edition:

When I started as a provider, I had a decent introduction into how to start my business. I had great training through the military, which I still use in practice today. When I stopped providing military-exclusive care and followed state rules, I looked for information on how to build my daycare in the community. I found plenty of information on how to open, and I had other providers to whom I could talk to keep my sanity. However, I was missing a personal touch and mentoring help to get me from an idea to the point where I had established a solid client relationship. I felt like something important was missing, but I wasn’t sure what it was.

For providers, I take time to explain some of the “whys.” I give information from mistakes I made or mistakes I witnessed other childcare providers make that is meant to save you money – potentially thousands of dollars depending on how impulsive you are. I also share experiences you can incorporate into your planning and business to help build better relationships with your clients.

Parent Edition:

Many parents, especially first-time parents, are unsure what they should check with attending an interview. They don’t understand the policies in place. They sign contracts, but many are not comfortable asking questions for further explanations or believe exceptions for some things will be made. Parents are sometimes placed in the position of taking any care they can get because they don’t have time to look.

For parents, I take time to explain some benefits of licensed & unlicensed providers. I address a few concerns that parents have asked me, such as developmental issues and what providers typically want you to know. Plus, I take time to give tips to help deter child abuse in a daycare setting.
